Here at ZIG+STAR we source premium materials for all of our products. The natural characteristics of the materials add to the charm and we see scuffs as part of their story…

To keep your shoes looking tip top, here are some tips:

Leather

Leather has many benefits as a shoe material… Naturally strong and durable, but comfortable too…

As a natural material, leather skins can have different characteristics. Over time you may see creasing or colour changes, and well as the leather becoming more supple with use. All of these changes are natural features of leather.

Leather is a naturally breathable material - if it becomes wet, pat with a dry cloth to remove any excess water, and leave to dry naturally, out of direct sunlight (keep away from radiators!)

If you prefer your shoes to be waterproof, you can buy organic waterproofing treatment sprays for leather.

Some wear and tear of the leather in more vulnerable areas such as edges and straps is to be expected.

Mud is best removed by leaving to dry out and remove with light brushing. Any remaining marks can be removed with a clean, damp cloth.

Light scuffs be sorted by rubbing a matching coloured shoe polish over affected area.

Suede

For our animal prints, we use a split suede which has a rough, natural  texture. As a printed suede, it can hide a multitude of sins but this will change and mark with age.

Suede is a natural, breathable material - if it becomes wet, pat with a dry cloth to remove any excess water, and leave to dry naturally, out of direct sunlight (keep away from radiators!)

As a porous material, some colour may transfer if the product becomes wet.

Metallic Leather Finishes

Metallic finishes are gorgeous but can be delicate. As such, they will wear a little over time and particularly when worn with dark fabrics or in wet/humid conditions.

Pigskin Leather

We use pigskin leather on our linings and socks. It’s slightly thinner than regular leather and stays soft and pliable with wear.

Hook-and Loop Fastenings

Invented in 1957, this amazing creation has been used on everything from school bags to NASA spacesuits.

While very durable, pulling too hard on the fastenings can eventually impair the functionality.

Keep fresh by laying the fastening on a flat, clean surface and gently brushing with a clean toothbrush.

Metal Hardware

We use premium, rust proof metal hardware on all our products, however they made fade over time depending on environmental factors, especially in areas of heavy use.

If wet, please pat dry with a clean cloth and leave to dry naturally.
